We may feel locked into behaviors such as caretaking or controlling.Feeling trapped is a symptom of codependency. When we hear ourselves say, I have to take care of this person. . . . I have to say yes. . . . I have to try to control that person. . . . I have to behave this way, think this way, feel this way. . . . we can know we are choosing not to see choices. That sense of being trapped is an illusion. We are not controlled by circumstances, our past, the expectations of others, or our unhealthy expectations for ourselves. We can choose what feels right for us, without guilt. We have options.Being conscious is not about behaving perfectly or according to anyone else's rules. More than anything else, mindfulness is about knowing we have choices and giving ourselves the freedom to choose.Today, I will open my thinking and myself to the choices available to me. I will make choices that are good for me.

God is present in all things, even those events and circumstances that seem terrible. Within any circumstance is the seed that can bear the fruit of the greater good, if we are willing to ask God to lead us in bringing forth that good.

AA Thought for the Day / There is a direct linkage among self-examination, meditation, and prayer. Taken separately, these practices can bring much relief and benefit. but when they are logically related and interwoven, the result is an unshakable foundation for life. / 12 & 12, p. 98
Look for spiritual guidance everywhere and at any time... Spiritual guidanceis not restricted to one area, or one particular day, or one particular timeof the day. While you may be more open to receiving your guidance in thequiet hours of the early morning, or the late night, your spiritual guidanceis always present. It is present in books that you "happen" to come across, articles you are attracted to reading, things you hear that when looked atfrom that perspective apply to your situation.
Marie T. Russell

If you want to reconnect with God, Love yourself. Be compassionate with yourself right now. If you want to reconnect with yourself, love the person who is in front of you. When you love another, you can feel compassion for and acceptance of yourself stirring in your heart and mind.
Paul Ferrini

"The first step to be taken in anything we wish to do is to seek divine assistance. To ask God to go with us and work with us, and to enter into such perfect spiritual harmony with God that we can feel His supreme power through and through-that is the first and most important, be it work pertaining to body, mind or soul."
Christian D. Larson

"Our inability to see beauty doesn’t suggest in the slightest that beauty is not there. Rather, it suggests that we are not looking carefully enough or with broad enough perspective to see the beauty."
Rabbi Harold Kushner

"The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing."
John Muir

Enlightenment is understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nobody you have to be except exactly who you're being right now.
