Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

June 7

Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:

“What we see is what we get.”

“We’ve all had the experience of sharing observations on an event or situation. Some people are able to capture the silver lining every time, regardless of the trauma caused by the situation. And then there’s the rest of us!

The exciting news is that every one of us can join the “silver liners” by changing one, tiny habit. We know about the split mind already. That’s one of the first lessons taught in the Course. All we have to do is link up with the part of the mind marked “Holy Spirit” rather than “ego” to seek our interpretation. Novices though we may be, that’s not a difficult assignment, and the results will astound us.

Another word for a better perspective is faith. God has never caused harm to us. We may have defined an experience as hurtful, but there always was another way to interpret what was happening. Knowing that each of us can seek a new interpretation, even immediately on the heels of a negative one, softens the sting of an experience.”

“God will help me see the positive side of life if I ask for vision.”

Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “It is imperative that we give time each day, each week, to silence, to the internal search, to honoring God before the world. We must embrace the void instead of resisting it. That is the way of the mystic. It is the only way we can heal.”

Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “The egos I encounter today do not have to affect my sense of self. In a group setting, or in a one-to-one exchange, I should acknowledge the intuitions and impressions that I have. However, if I disturb this process by also ranking myself against the characteristics I see and the facts I learn about other people, my sense of self is immediately altered, because I am then making the egos of those around me part of who I think I am.”

Wayne Dyer: “What you want to avoid is allowing anyone to cause you to feel revulsion, disgust, or agony. Remaining in a state of love is your objective.”

Paul Ferrini: “You can’t solve a problem on the level on which you perceive it. You must go to a higher level, see the big picture, see the cause of the problem and address that.”

Unity’s Daily Word:

“Trusting in the presence of God,
I give thanks that all is well.”

“As I enter the refuge of prayer, I close the door to any thoughts other than ones that assure me of God’s loving, protecting presence. I am open only to thoughts that increase my comprehension of God’s presence and the understanding that God will see through any of life’s challenges.”

“My life is enriched by the peace of mind I experience as I immerse my thoughts in God’s presence. I affirm: Trusting in the presence of God, I give thanks that all is well.”

“If a circumstance appears to be contrary to what supports my well-being at any time during the day or night, I respond from the spirit of God within me. I do so knowing that God is guiding me in ways of peace and safety.”

A Course in Miracles: Lesson 158

“Today I learn to give as I receive.”

Lesson 158

“Today I learn to give as I receive.”

This lesson is repeated many times in the Course, many times in many different ways, but always the same thought – what I give, I also receive. Remembering this I become aware of what I am “giving” others – is this what I also want in return? I realize that if I hold love in my thoughts and extend that love to others, I receive love in return. But that also works for the thoughts I hold that are not of love. This is what I must keep remembering today.
