Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Our substitutes for God are everywhere.”
“Because we mistakenly think God has abandoned us, we feel an awful emptiness within. In our search to feel better, we clutch at other people, forcing “special” relationships, hoping that their presence in our lives will fill us up. Our attempts are unnecessary. God never left us. It’s we who moved. It’s we who will have to reconnect with God. We are capable of doing that right now. All that’s necessary is the desire and the decision to go quietly within.
Why do special relationships seem so attractive? They cause us frequent pain, and the feeling of abandonment visits us often. What also accompanies these relationships is an occasional moment of seeming control over someone else, thus our future. When we’re feeling this, we’re certain we’ll never be rejected again. But that feeling is extremely short-lived. We can’t, finally, control someone else. And when this person leaves, we seek another substitute, then another and another. Let’s seek God instead.”
“Why settle for a substitute for God today?
The real thing is as close as my mind.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Relationships are our primary teacher. They are the context in which we either grow into the consciousness of God, or deny ourselves and others the opportunity to do so.”
Hugh Prater, Morning Notes: “In God there are no needs. The unanticipated and uncontrollable ways that life so often plays out make it clear that I don’t know what is good for me or even what I truly want. To decide what I need and then ask God to provide it, is at best partial trust. By trusting God fully, I discover that my needs are already answered.”
Wayne Dyer: “Healing…is a rising above the concept of the physical or material and into God realization, and the term unreal or illusion refers to the unreality of disease in a realm of wholeness and spiritual consciousness.”
Paul Ferrini: “Imagine feeling connected in your heart to your partner in the same way that you feel connected to your own breathing.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“Responding to the guidance of Spirit,
I participate in the flow of life.”
“As I lend a helping hand to the people around me, I am fulfilling the law of giving and receiving. No resource is depleted when I freely give it away – nothing is lost, but rather much is gained.”
“By being of help to others, I am participating in the flow of life. I have knowledge, gifts, talents, and resources to share with others, and they have theirs to share with me. Together, we are partners and participants in a beautiful truth.”
“Responding to the guidance of Spirit, I give freely. It may be that I will never see or experience the outcome of my gift, but that is of no concern to me. In helping others, I have been given an opportunity to share of myself and my resources. I have participated in the divine flow of life.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 191
