Self care means taking responsibility for ourselves. Taking responsibility for ourselves includes assuming our true responsibilities to others.Sometimes we're worn down from feeling responsible for so many other people. Learning that we need only take responsibility for ourselves may be such a great relief that, for a time, we disown our responsibilities to others. The goal is to find the balance: we take responsibility for ourselves, and we identify our true responsibilities to others. This may take some sorting through, especially if we have functioned for years on distorted notions about our responsibilities to others. We can learn to discern our true responsibilities for ourselves, and to others. We can allow others to be responsible for themselves and expect them to be appropriately responsible to us.We'll need to be gentle with ourselves while we learn.Today, I will strive for clear thinking about my actual responsibilities to others. I will assume these responsibilities as part of taking care of myself.Melody Beattie ©
Once we know people's stories, we feel compassion instead of judgment. Today, practice remembering that everyone has a story.- Mary Manin Morrissey
AA Thought of the Day / The achievement of freedom from fear is a lifetime undertaking, one that can never be wholly completed. Only the self-deceived will claim perfect freedom from fear. / As Bill Sees It, p. 263
To ultimately "make it" in this Work of Awakening, of Transformation, you have to embrace the miraculous - always. And that miracle is you being so much at peace with yourself that you can turn your energy towards welcoming and using the opportunities that are always falling into your lap. To embrace and devour these opportunities will make you free, happy, full of life, full of passion. Then your circumstances won't affect you so dramatically.
Lee Lozowick
When you do what's important now for you, you create a past that leaves you ready to handle the present. By default, the future is taking care of itself as you make decisions that are acceptable to you no matter what happens tomorrow. You no longer give yourself reasons to feel self-doubt, anxiety, or resentment. You are doing the best you can.
John Kuypers
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could; some blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.Ralph Waldo Emerson
The limiting beliefs and self-doubts that plague most of us are formidable opponents. One of the most effective ways of dealing with these harsh internal messages is to learn to question every single should and limiting belief with the gentle innocence of children.
Maggie Craddock
We need others. We need others to love and we need to be loved by them. There is no doubt that without it, we too, like the infant left alone, would cease to grow, cease to develop, choose madness and even death.Dr. Leo Buscaglia
