Trying to prove how good we are, trying to prove we're good enough, trying to show someone how much he or she has hurt us, trying to show someone we're understanding, are warning signs that we may be into our self defeating behaviors. They can be an indication that we are trying to control someone. They can be an indication that we do not believe how good we are, that we're good enough.Trying excessively to make a point with another may mean that we have not yet made that point with ourselves. Once we make that point with ourselves, once we understand, we will know what to do. The issue is not about others understanding and taking us seriously. The issue is not about others believing we're good and good enough. The issue is not about others seeing and believing how responsible or loving or competent we are. The issue is not about whether others realize how deeply we are feeling a particular feeling. We are the ones that need to see the light.Today, God, help me let go of my need to control outcomes by influencing the beliefs of others. I will concentrate on accepting myself, rather than trying to prove something about myself. If I catch myself in the codependent trap of trying to emphasize something about myself to another, I will ask myself if I need to convince myself at that point.Melody Beattie ©
With every prayer and every thought of love, we release the light that will cast out darkness. One light alone seems small and weak, but no one's light is ever alone, for all our lights are part of God.Marianne Williamson
AA Thought of the Day / Living upon a basis of unsatisfied demands, we were in a state of continual disturbance and frustration. Therefore, no peace was to be had unless we could find a means of reducing these demands. / 12 & 12, p. 76
Beliefs are ideas and thoughts that we accept as truth. What we think about ourselves and the world becomes true for us. What we choose to believe can expand and enrich our world. Each day can be an exciting, joyous, hopeful experience; or a sorrowful, limiting, and painful one. Two people living in the same world, with the same set of circumstances, can experience life so differently. What can transport us from one world to another? I'm convinced that it's our beliefs that do so. When we're willing to change our primary belief structures, then we may experience a true change in our lives.
Louise L. Hay
Each of us is blessed with an internal guide, a source able to direct our actions if we but acknowledge it. Never are we in doubt for long over what turn in the path to take. The courage to take it might not be immediately forthcoming; however, it, too, is one of the gifts we've been blessed with. Courage is ours for the asking. Direction is ours for the taking.
Maria Yraceburu
You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but trouble has come because you are depressed. You can change your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will change to correspond, and indeed there is no other way of working.
Emmet Fox
It seems sometimes that it's our nature to first think negatively. But that's just because it's the habit we've developed. And like any habit, it can be changed by replacing it with the habit of right thinking.
Vic Johnson
Spirit wants us to accomplish certain things and so it fills us with enthusiasm. It is more than just our link with God; it literally is God within us.Ron Roth
A person is buffeted by circumstances so long as he believes himself to be the creature of outside conditions."James Allen
