Peace

Peace is a choice we make. It is experiencing the presence of God. When we dissolve all thoughts of separation we experience peace. Peace is not the absence of pain or conflict. It is the ability to be with adversity in the midst of suffering. Thich Nhat Hanh describes the response of those on crowded refuge boats when dealing with storms or pirates, "If everyone panicked the boat would capsize, if only one remained calm and centered that was enough to save everyone. One person centered in God was sufficient "

Situations don't cause stress our thoughts do. If we need proof of this look how different people react to the same situation. When we are feeling stress we can change our thought to one that brings forth peace. Ernest Holmes writes that when we are confused we can strop and say, "I am submerged in peace, I am surrounded by peace, I am immersed in peace, and there is nothing but peace, peace, deep calm undisturbed."

I find it amazing how many stories we hear about people who have lost everything who attain a deep state of peace and acceptance. We need not wait until we are in pain to make this discovery, we can decide right now to live from the inside out. Affirm: Today I let go of my attachments to things and allow my thoughts to center on my inner world. I invite the peace that surpasses all understanding to express in my life.
