As the travelers to Bethlehem made there way south over the dusty roads, they had to rest periodically. A journey like this would have been hard on anyone, but particularly for Mary who was nine months pregnant and close to her delivery date.
One area that challenged many of us is an inability to be still and allow Spirit time to enlighten us with insights and experiences that feed and nourish us. We belong to a society that thrives on activity and the more frantic the better. many believe that activity is good and inactivity is bad, or at best barely tolerable. From the omnipresent gyms and workout facilities to the construction projects that dot our landscapes we are a society on the go. Yet Spirit doesn't work that way.
Spirit has its way with us during periods of repose and quiet when we are able to listen to its voice and discern the meaning of Its urgings. Divinity leads us along the path gently and brings issues to our attention when and as we are able to deal with them. Spirit the very name means breath, works on us in ways that are natural and spontaneous and induce growth.
The primary purpose of a daily spiritual practice is to give us time to quiet the outer world and allow the inner a chance to speak to us. We cant listen to God if everything else in our existence is shouting for our attention. Periods of serenity and repose provide us with the opportunity to reconnect with our source and rest in its embrace.
Affirm: I rejoice in the wonder of my life's journey. I allow myself time to take stock and meditate on the purpose of my life. I listen to Spirit and it inspires and enlightens me.
