Snips

Our endless search for The Right Person keeps many of us unnecessarily busy. We're always looking for that person who will cure our loneliness, make us feel good about ourselves, and make us feel whole. Yet wholeness and happiness aren't things other people can give us. They're gifts we give ourselves. All along the best friend and life partner we could possibly want, we already have. In our search for happiness from "out there," we may have neglected and abandoned our relationship to our self. Like any good friend, we deserve attention and respect. The more we attend to our self, the happier we'll be.

...meditation is very much like training a puppy. You put the puppy down and say, "Stay." Does the puppy listen? It gets up and it runs away. You sit the puppy back down again. "Stay." And the puppy runs away over and over again. Sometimes the puppy jumps up, runs over, and pees in the corner or makes some other mess. Our minds are much the same as the puppy, only they create even bigger messes. In training the mind, or the puppy, we have to start over and over again.
