Life does not have to be difficult. Life is good. We don't have to "awfulize" it, or ourselves. We do have power, more power than we know, even in the difficult times. And the difficult times don't prove life is bad; they are part of the ups and downs of life. We can change our attitude; we can change ourselves; sometimes, we can change our circumstances. Life is challenging. Sometimes, there's more pain than we asked for; sometimes, there's more joy than we imagined. It's all part of the package, and the package is good.
Melody Beattie
One of the great mental laws is the Law of Substitution. This means that the only way to get rid of a certain thought is to substitute another one for it. You cannot dismiss a thought directly. You can do so only by substituting another one for it. If I say to you, "Do not think of the Statue of Liberty," of course, you immediately think of it. If I say, "I am not going to think of the Statue of Liberty," that is thinking about it. But if you become interested in something else, you forget all about the Statue of Liberty--and this is a case of substitution. When negative thoughts come to you, do not fight them, but think of something positive. Preferably think of God; but if that is difficult at the moment, turn your attention to something quite different.
Emmet Fox
We all experience "soul moments" in life-when we see a magnificent sunrise, hear the call of the loon, see the wrinkles in our mother's hands, or smell the sweetness of a baby. During these moments, our body, as well as our brain, resonates as we experience the glory of being a human being.
Marion Woodman
"It all depends on how we look at things, and not on how things are in themselves. The least of things with a meaning is worth more in life than the greatest of things without it."
Carl Gustav Jung
The belief that there is no way out of the human jungle is nothing but a hoax, a bluff, a false alarm, an evil deception which you can unmask. The way out starts by really wanting out.
Vernon Howard
Soul is our appetite, driving us to eat from the banquet of life. People filled with the hunger of soul take food from every dish before them, whether it be sweet or bitter.
Matthew Fox
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes."
Hugh Downs
"Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving."
W.T. Purkiser
"There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle, or the mirror that reflects it."
Edith Wharton
