Wisdom comes in many packages, from many directions, in many sizes and shapes. I well remember some of the early 12 Step meetings I attended. I was prone to tune out some of the speakers, thinking that what they had to say didn't mirror my life and was of little significance to my recovery. My sponsor at the time was very wise. She said, "Everything you hear carries a message that could save your life someday. Listen up!
Shifting your perception to allow that everything you hear may one day save your life has the potential of changing every future experience you have. Adjusting to the belief that you are receiving what you came here to receive -- thus meeting whom you need to meet, learning what you need to learn, growing in the way you need to grow-makes every minute of every day a gift.
These lessons are not all going to be life changing, often they are quite ordinary. Its important to realize this so that we don't discount any of our experiences. we must not discount the experiences of fellow travelers either. Our interactions are by design even when we cant grasp their meaning in the midst of the experience. With this shift in perception situations that are particularly troubling suddenly raise the question, what lesson am I resisting?
The best rule of thumb is to assume there is always something to learn, thus something to be grateful for and that others are looking to us as teachers whether we or they are fully conscious of it or not.
Rejoice in the fact that the journey is why you are here. Nothing is coming your way that you are not prepared for or cannot handle, particularly if you go to your Higher Power for strength. You are exactly where you are supposed to be, right now and always, doing what needs to be done. And what is true for you is true for others too. Let them do their own listening and make their own journey.
