Is There a Plan for Me?

Wanderer, there is no path,
You lay a path in walking
-Antonio Machado

The will of God is always toward that which expresses life and happiness – The Science of Mind, pg 412

One question asked more than any other by people on a spiritual path is: What is God’s plan for me? We all would like to know what Spirit has in store for us: will we marry, where will we live, what kind of job will we have, whether we will achieve wealth, health, and happiness. No doubt assurance in these areas would relieve a lot of concern and internal agitation – or, maybe not.

Knowing the answers doesn’t always assure us a trouble-free life. Often we want more of something or a different good than the one we have been handed. There is no crystal ball for the future wherein we can see with clarity all that will transpire in our lives. This is probably for our best because if we could accurately predict the outcome we might not put enough energy into getting there.

God’s only plan for any of us is simply the pursuit of good in whatever guise it presents itself. We pursue our life path by traveling in whatever direction seems best at the time in question. This may seem confusing because we all want to feel we are following God’s will for us. But as Ernest Holmes reminds us: “There is no will of God for us except insofar as the pursuit of our good is concerned.”

We are instructed to listen to the voice within and allow it to direct us. We cannot go wrong when we listen to Spirit ad follow Its counsel. One step on the path leads to every next step. Pretty soon we look back and can see that we have been guided all the time.

I rejoice in the wonder of my life’s journey. I quiet myself and listen to the Spirit within me as It directs me to take action in particular circumstances.
