"Where love is present, miracles happen. Where the consciousness of God is present - the desire and willingness to love - there God is, for He is invoked through our willingness to serve His children. Commitment to love produces expanded possibilities."
Marianne Williamson
"A still mind is inherently tolerant. Because minds are already joined, only a busy mind can block communication. The ability to see another person clearly springs from gentle tolerance, not from scrutiny. Tolerance is the child of stillness."
Hugh Prather
"Your ego can blame as many people as you want for the choices you make, but at the end of the day, your conscience - your soul - does not assign blame."
Carolyn Myss
"The ego doesn't know that your only opportunity for being at peace is now. Or maybe it does know, and it is afraid that you might this out. Peace, after all, is the end of the ego."
Eckhart Tolle

Seeds for Thought
"Asking the Holy Spirit to heal us when we are sick means asking him to heal the thoughts within us that give rise to sickness." ~ Marianne Williamson
"Commitment does not preclude peace, and peace does not preclude commitment. Most of us think we are in situations we should not have to accept and around people we should not have to endure. Yet the life of every saint, prophet, and master is a story of acceptance that endures and endurance that accepts." ~ Hugh Prather
"You can tell yourself that you do indeed trust in this God, but do you really believe that your basic needs will be met in life? Do you require order in your physical world to feel safe? What do you pray for? How many prayers do you offer for safety? For protection? How many prayers do you make that stem from your desire to survive? How many prayers do you offer in surrender? How much do you fear that if you surrender, God will reduce you to poverty? Do you still need a reason for even one experience or trauma that happened to you? Do you still question why chaos swept through your life and reordered the plans you had?" ~ Carolyn Myss
"Negativity is not intelligent. It is always of the ego. The ego may be clever, but it is not intelligent. Cleverness pursues its own little aims. Intelligence sees the larger whole in which all things are connected. Cleverness is motivated by self-interest, and it is extremely short-sighted. Most politicians and businesspeople are clever. Very few are intelligent. Whatever is attained through cleverness is short-lived and always turns out to be eventually self-defeating. Cleverness divides; intelligence includes." ~ Eckhart Tolle

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

October 1
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Allowing the Holy Spirit to extend love through is a miracle.”
“In the past we may have thought of miracles as physical events: the saved life, the cured disease, the unexpected birth. These occurrences, however, aren’t the only examples of miracles. We feel miracles; they don’t depend on physical proof. In other words, miracles exist in our minds. What better place for them? It means we can all personally experience miracles daily.
Allowing our minds to express joy, happiness, and serenity means offering love as a matter of course. To do this, we need to align with the Holy Spirit rather than the ego, but that’s no challenge. It’s a decision we can make at will. Until we have a history of doing this, we can’t anticipate how smoothly our day will flow. That’s the miracle!
Being a “miracle-worker” is work we all have been called to do. No matter what profession or job we may have prepared for, it pales in comparison to the benefits of extending the love of the Holy Spirit to one another.”
“I will do my part in creating a miracle today.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Darkness is merely the absence of light, and fear is merely the absence of love. If we want to be rid of fear, we cannot fight it but must replace it with love.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “Let my soul go where I cannot go and let my soul go only with God…I detach as I pray. I put my soul in God’s hand to serve only good in this situation that I feel powerless to change.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “On the surface, the present moment is ‘what happens.’ Since what happens changes continuously, it seems that every day of your life consists of thousands of moments in which different things happen. Time is seen as the endless succession of moments, some ‘good,’ some ‘bad.’
Unity’s Daily Word: “Resting the presence of pure peace, I experience serenity within my soul.”
“Envisioning myself looking at the still waters of a reflecting pool has a calming effect on me. Even when a wind temporarily disturbs or ruffles the pool’s surface, I understand that the water beneath remains still, and calm is soon restored to the surface.”
“I, too, have an inner tranquility. Its source is the love of God that is always within me, keeping me serene, secure, and confident when I most need to be. God’s peace-giving love radiates from within me, and because it does, I influence the people around me in positive ways. The more I radiate peace to others, the more it is reflected back to me from the love of God within them.”
“I stay calm throughout all situations. Knowing that the peace-giving love of God is within all people helps me realize that peace is the reality for all people – here and now.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

September 28
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Are we willing to give up attack thoughts?”
“The signs of human aggression are everywhere. Newspapers recount them; television reports them; magazines and movies often exaggerate and glorify them. It’s difficult to imagine a nonaggressive world. We may wonder what good it would do if we gave up our aggression, our desires to attack others. In a world such as this one, wouldn’t we be taken advantage of?
The point of giving up attack thoughts, according to the Course, is for the reward that’s guaranteed. We’ll discover a peacefulness we had never known when we relinquish our attack thoughts. We’ll realize that others seek only love in the guise of their attacks. We have to decide if we want peace, of course, and if we haven’t experienced it very often, we may not appreciate its value.
Let’s experiment with this idea. Whenever we get the desire to attack someone today, replace the thought with the idea of God. Replace the feeling with an offering of love. That’s all we ever really want. That’s all others really want too.”
“I can give up all attack thoughts for this one day. How will it feel?”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “When people behave unlovingly, they have forgotten who they are. They have fallen asleep to the Christ within them.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Is this thought a source of pain or a source of comfort? Some things are more difficult to let go of than others. The trick is to commit to the process. I do the best I can each time I get caught up in attack thoughts, and I set no time limit on my future efforts. It will take as long as it takes, and I resolve not to stop until I can think of the event or the individual in peace.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “The world is our monastery now. Our spiritual challengers unfold within our personal lives and the external world. When you pursue a relationship with your soul and God through the Castle, you are answering a call. You are being called to build your spiritual stamina so that you can channel grace in this world and for this world. Our new monastery, the world, is in desperate need of the strength of your soul.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “…as if it were an enemy – When you hate what you are doing, complain about your surroundings, curse things that are happening or have happened, or when your internal dialogue consists of should and shouldn’ts, of blaming and accusing, then you are arguing with what is, arguing with that which is always already the case. You are making Life into an enemy and Life says, ‘War is what you want, and war is what you get.’ External reality, which always reflects back to you your inner state, is then experienced as hostile.”
Unity’s Daily Word: “Bringing greater order to my thoughts, I establish new order in my life.”
“My home and workspace reflect aspects of my personal life. For example, if I notice a buildup of clutter in my surroundings, I may also discover mental or emotional clutter that is ready to be cleared away.”
“I begin by taking a few moments to center myself in prayer. Open and receptive to the wisdom of God, I trust that I will be guided on how to proceed.”
“Paying attention to the physical world I am creating around me, I gain new insight into the inner world of my thoughts as well. Drawing upon the wisdom of God, I bring greater order to my thoughts, which establishes new order in my life.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

September 27
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Nothing has to change.”
“So many times a day we lament a particular situation, certain that our lives could be vastly improved if only it changed. And when that doesn’t seem possible, we focus on the people involved, in hopes that they will change. Can it be true that nothing has to change in order for our experience to be different? Indeed, that’s the case. But how?
When the particulars of a situation stay the same, it’s natural for us to assume that our reaction and the outcome will be the same too. That’s what past experience has taught us. But we are learning something different now, and it’s vastly important. It can change every experience we’ll ever have; consequently, our lives will unfold in a way that’s unimaginable to us now.
We are learning that we can see any experience in a wholly unexpected way simply by seeking another perspective. Not a single aspect has to change for us to see it differently. That’s miraculous! Our lives will never be the same.”
“I can handle whatever is happening today. How I see it is in my control.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “If you are judging a brother, you’re wrong even if you’re right.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “When the focus of my thoughts shifts from separation to connection, my entire world shifts with it. The thoughts that I take to heart become the eyes with which I see. Even if unconsciously, they determine what I choose to overlook as insignificant. Yet simply because something goes unheeded doesn’t mean that I remain unaffected by it. This is why being aware of my thoughts is crucial to sustaining peace.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “Reverence and devotion open the soul to intimacy with God and go far deeper than exploring personal matters of healing. You cannot stop and start a true soul practice. Once you consciously enter your Castle, you set in motion a journey that has no end point. Mystical experiences begin when you finally leave personal agendas with God behind.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “…an obstacle to overcome – This is where impatience, frustration, and stress arise, and in our culture, it is many people’s everyday reality, their normal state. Life, which is now, is seen as ‘problem,’ and you come to inhabit a world of problems that all need to be solved before you can be happy, fulfilled, or really start living – or so you think. The problem is this: For every problem that is solved, another pops up. As long as the present moment is seen as an obstacle, there can be no end to problems.”
Unity’s Daily Word: “God’s love is blessing my loved ones in every needed way.”
“I welcome every opportunity to deepen my love for family and friends. And one way I can do this is to pray for them.”
“When someone I know is going through a difficult time, I offer encouraging words or a hug. Whether the person I am reaching out to in love is close at hand or far away, I can embrace them in prayer. As I enfold those I pray for in thoughts of the love of God that unites us, I connect with them on a deep spiritual level.”
“Asking my friends in Silent Unity for prayer support helps me expand my embrace to reach out to people around the world and hold faith-filled thoughts for their well being.”
“God’s all-providing love is within each one I pray for and is blessing them in every needed way.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

July 20
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Honesty inspires peacefulness.”
“We all desire peace, but we don’t always practice peacefulness. We may argue or pout. We may plot to control or confuse others. We may even engage in sinister activities. But the fact of the matter is, we’d rather be at peace. We just aren’t very good at accomplishing it.
Making the decision to be lovingly honest is the key to peacefulness. How do we do it? It’s not difficult, but it does require that we acknowledge how quickly the ego interferes in our lives. The ego has a vested interest in our dishonesty. If the ego is in control, and that’s always its intent, it stops at nothing to stay in control. Taking into account what may be the best outcome for everyone concerned is never of interest to the ego. The ego seeks self-gratification only. Peace doesn’t live there.
Asking for help from the Holy Spirit is the only way to develop real honesty. It can be immediate but most of us will have to ask many times. In fact, we’ll have to first be willing to ask. Let’s not give up.”
“The opportunity to be honest, thus peaceful, will present itself many times today.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Hope is born of participation in hopeful solutions. We are happy to the extent that we choose to notice and to create the reasons for happiness. Optimism and happiness are the results of spiritual work.”
Hugh Prater, Morning Notes: “God knows the question before I ask. Do I really think God needs my explanation? Simply be deciding to relax into my better nature, and to rest there happily, I put myself into the care of the most benevolent power there is. God doesn’t have to provide the answer; God is the answer.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “Mystical experiences happen when you are ready…Whenever you turn over your faith to your mind to manage, you always end up in a crisis of faith.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “I usually congratulate people when they tell me, ‘I don’t know who I am anymore.’ Then they looked perplexed and ask, ‘Are you saying it is a good thing to be confused?’ I ask them to investigate. What does it mean to be confused? ‘I don’t know’ is not confusion. Confusion is: ‘I don’t know, but I should know’ or ‘I don’t know, but I need to know.’
Unity’s Daily Word: “God’s grace fills my life and the lives of others with pure, unconditional love.”
“Grace is divine love in action, a gift given unconditionally by God. So if, at any time, I have let the fog of doubt keep me from seeing beyond apparent lack, I know what to do. It’s the perfect time to pause, take a deep breath, and direct my attention to God, the source of goodness and grace.”
“In the quiet of my soul, I remember the times when seemingly undeserved good came my way. I give thanks that God’s unconditional love and grace have blessed me. I know that many more opportunities to experience this divine gift will unfold.”
“I recognize grace as a very real blessing for others. I hold them in loving thought, trusting that they, too, will recognize and accept the gift of God’s grace – God’s love in action in their lives.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 201 Review Lesson 181 “I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.” “I trust my brothers, who are one with me.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

July 16
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“We can give up what our eyes can see.”
“One of the earliest exercises in the Course workbook tells us that nothing we see is real. It’s not easy to grasp this idea. Our leg hurts when we bump it; the chair moves we sit on it; the plate breaks when we drop it. What can it possibly mean that “what we see isn’t real?”
Clarity comes when we recall the text telling us that Jesus looked upon his wounds and did not see them. He looked beyond them and saw, instead, the crucifier’s fear and forgave them. Perhaps we aren’t yet able to respond so nobly to the many adverse conditions in our lives; however, we, too, can look past them if we so desire. But how?
The method is the same in every instance. When we’re distressed about anything at all, seek another perspective from the Spirit within. This response doesn’t make circumstances vanish. We may still see the turmoil, but we have no need to react to it. Peace has come, instead. It will always come if we seek it.”
“What captures my attention is my responsibility today.
I will see what I choose to see.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “We must teach our children that the abundance in the world is infinite and available to everyone because it comes from within us. As we teach our kids to bless the world, celebrate the world, and embrace the world, we hand them the keys to success.”
Hugh Prater, Morning Notes: “Let me not be afraid to relax and be happy. I can’t put myself in jeopardy by resting a moment in God. When I’m in the grip of my ego – whether angry, discouraged, afraid, jealous, judgmental, or any number of other such attitudes – I still have the option of pausing and remembering that God wants me to be happy and has provided a way for that to happen. Simply remembering God renews my connection with the place where I am already whole.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “That clear intent of the divine…is to engage you in a mystery…the divine may manifest in your life a series of challenges meant to wake you up from thinking that you control your world and everyone in it.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “All you need to know and observe in yourself is this: Whenever you feel superior or inferior to anyone, that’s the ego in you.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“Giving expression to the peace of God within me,
I am peaceful and fulfilled.”
“Anytime the busyness of my day disrupts my peace of mind, I take a moment to rejuvenate myself through prayer. As I close my eyes, I focus on the breath of life moving through my body. This even, rhythmic flow brings my attention back to the peace of God.”
“Like a pristine reservoir of sparkling water, the peace of God wells up within me and infuses me with energy. This peaceful effervescence melts away any tension and invigorates my senses. With every breath, I immerse myself more deeply in this sacred experience of inner peace.”
“I emerge from these meditative moments refreshed and renewed. Giving expression to the peace of God that resides within me, I am peaceful and fulfilled.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 197
“It can be but my gratitude I earn.”

Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

July 13
Karen Casey,
Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“God created only Spirit.”
“Most of us grew up believing that God made everything. We felt secure thinking that the trees, the oceans, the creatures galore, and all human life were the direct creations of an all-powerful God. That interpretation certainly didn’t hurt us; however, we are learning now that God isn’t the creator of the world we see. In fact, it doesn’t even exist in God’s realm.
This news is unsettling at first. We wonder: Can so many religious beliefs be wrong? Fortunately, we don’t have to defend the principles to anyone. Deciding to believe it and then adjusting how we live our own lives will exemplify the value of this belief to anyone who really cares.
What does this principle do for us? For one, it makes take responsibility for how we see the experiences in our lives. Further, it convinces us that we’ll only see what we have chosen to see. Coming to believe that the ego causes our consternation gives us the freedom and encouragement to make others choices. Knowing that we created our messes humbles us. It can also empower us.”
“I create the smooth flow of my life today. The rocky road is my creation too.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “This is the spiritual meaning of intimacy: growth inward, past our masks and fears and recklessness, to the sacred place where we are naked before God and each other.”
Hugh Prater, Morning Notes: “To accept responsibility for everything I think and o – but guilt for nothing already corrected – is humility true and pure. A general uneasiness, a pang of conscience, or a sudden stab of anxiety can be a useful indicator that I am not being honest with myself. First, I must acknowledge what I am not facing. Next, I must act to correct it, even if this can only done mentally. Only then can I safely reject feelings of guilt.”
Carolyn Myss, Entering the Castle: “A heightened sense of your soul is an indicator that the divine has entered…with very clear intent. When your soul has become animated by the divine, you feel a dramatic increase in the sensation that something is different or about to happen, but you just don’t know what.”
Eckhart Tolle, A New Earth: “Behind every positive self-concept is the hidden fear of not being good enough. Behind every negative self-concept is the hidden desire of being the greatest or better than others. Behind the confident ego’s feeling of and continuing need for superiority is the unconscious fear of inferiority.”
Unity’s Daily Word: “God is working wonders in my life today.”
“I have faith that God is working wonders in my life and in the lives of others. Yet at times, I may feel this assurance more powerfully than at other times. Always, when I bring my thoughts back to God, I keep on keeping on.”
“My trust in God grows stronger as I shed positive light on any situation. When I perceive that another needs assurance, I offer a silent moment of prayer or spoken words of encouragement. These simple actions can help someone move forward.”
“My own act of faith – of sharing a word of reassurance and hope – is a sincerity of intention that is grounded in my trust in God. I know that God is the constant in every life and opens the way to rich blessings.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 29
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Fear may come and go.”
“Fear visits us when we forget our union with all others and with God. Why is it so hard to remember that we are One, joined for all time with our Creator? It’s hard because the ego doesn’t want us to remember that. The ego wants us to think we are separate, unequal human beings. The ego wants us to fight with others, to be uneasy with others, to fear the presence of others. The ego is nourished by the insanity that makes us feel separate.
Fortunately, we can turn away from fear every time the ego snares us. Its hold on us is caused by our own unwillingness to ask the Holy Spirit for help, for a different perspective, for even a little awareness of the love that’s always present. When the struggle is great, the best we may be able to do is seek some peace a minute at a time. But that’s a beginning.
Peace is elusive, but it doesn’t have to be. The Holy Spirit is only a tiny thought away. In an instant, we can have the peace and joy we claim to want. This gift awaits us.”
“I am as free of fear as I want to be every day.
Today beckons.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “When we think with love, we are literally co-creating with God. And when we’re not thinking with love, since only love is real, then we’re actually not thinking at all.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “I put myself in a position of weakness when I cherish a grievance. When I hold onto resentment or bitterness, I can’t help but see myself as a victim, because I have put someone else in control. And as long as I think of myself as a victim, I have nothing but weakness to extend to others. Thus a victim self-image is not only damaging to me but to the people I love.”
Caroline Myss: “Silence is the soul’s oxygen, ‘the true friend who never betrays,’ wrote Confucius: ‘the one and only voice of God,’ according to Melville. In silence, you can hear your soul’s guidance.”
Eckhart Tolle: “All that is required to become free of the ego is to be aware of it, since awareness and ego are incompatible. Awareness is the power concealed in the present moment. This is why we may also call it Presence. The ultimate purpose of human existence…your purpose, is to bring that power into this world. And this why becoming free of the ego cannot be made into a goal to be attained at some point in the future. Only Presence can free you of the ego, and you can only be present.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“I am happy, whole, peaceful, and secure.”
“My Spirit-centered attitude shows in the positive way I feel emotionally and physically. Communicating with an attitude enriched by divine love, I speak words of kindness, comfort, and cheer. Positive energy reverberates within me and flows out from me as happiness and peace.”
“I don’t dwell on why things are not going according to my plan. I look for the common ground that I share with all other children of God. Working together, we dissolve any misunderstanding and bring about the perfect plan.”
“My prayers are affirmations of health and wholeness of mind and body. I am happy, whole, peaceful, and secure.”

Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

June 28
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Our minds are split.”
“We have certainly all be confused over making good decisions. Probably we’ve even said, “I just don’t know. I’m torn between two options.” The Course teaches us how one option frequently reflects the controlling ego, while the other option reflects the Spirit.
The question to ask is, which one feels best? Thinking we are right and that people should live their lives our way makes us tense, particularly when they don’t behave as we’d like, which is often. We aren’t eager to admit it , but the ego has caused the tension – not their behavior.
Letting go of people, outcomes, specific plans isn’t easy at first. It feels like we are shirking our duty. That’s how attached we are to letting the ego hold us hostage. It doesn’t feel good though, because every other ego wants its own say too. So we live in perpetual tension.
Since our minds have two parts, why not respond to the world from the Spirit, the side of us that makes us peaceful? It’s worth considering, isn’t it?”
“Both the Sprit and ego beckon today.
Only the Spirit offers me peace of mind.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “The inner life is like a garden we haven’t really thought of planting, which will bear all the fruit we could ever want, once we think to tend to its needs.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “I am never a victim of my thoughts unless I want to be. I can choose to overlook my ego thoughts and say I’m not really responsible because I lack awareness. Or I can acknowledge these thoughts yet choose to be destructive anyway “because the temptation is just too great.” But there is never total unawareness. No ‘hardwiring,’ ‘basic nature,’ or ‘inner demons’ can force me to betray my higher mind. However I may justify betrayal of myself or others, I alone choose to be a victim of my thoughts.”
Caroline Myss: “When you pray to have your calling revealed to you, you are actually asking for a life that benefits at least one person other than yourself. That is the mystic’s life purpose – to know his or her soul and put it to use in a spiritually radical form of service to others…your interior life becomes more valid, more real than your exterior life.”
Eckhart Tolle: “…medical treatment is the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer in the United States.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“I have a faith in God that makes my day
and paves my way.”
“If I am facing a challenge that seems difficult to overcome, I affirm to myself: I have a faith in God that makes my day and paves my way. Such faith encourages me to let go and let God.”
“As I take time in prayer, I release all to God and feel the weight of having to make a decision on my own slip away. I realize that each choice I make is an opportunity for me to express my faith in God to bring about greater wonder in my life.”
“Knowing that God and I are one fills me with reassurance that even the most difficult challenge can reveal the greatest blessing. As a creation of God, I meet each day with faith. I understand that everything I accomplish is done through the presence of God expressing life and wisdom through me. I remain ever open to this guiding Presence.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 26
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Let’s pray to get out of the Holy Spirit’s way.”
“Most of us would admit to praying for a better job or more money or secure relationships. It’s not wrong to pray for any of these things. However, it keeps us thinking we can control situations if only God answers our prayers. The more we pray, the more willing God becomes, we hope.
Alas, we generally stay stuck because the ego’s prayers are so limiting. We only discover this, however, when we let the Holy Spirit take charge of where we go, what we do, what we think, whom we befriend, and thus who we become. We have so much more potential than the ego would ever credit us with.
It’s really much easier to pray only to stay out of the Holy Spirit’s way. It saves us from needing to figure out what we should do or think in particular situations. It frees us from trying to figure out a friend’s life too. There’s one thing to do, and only one thing, in every circumstance. Move aside for the Holy Spirit.”
“I’m tense because I’m trying to control the uncontrollable.
I’ll let the Holy Spirit work in my life today.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “The ultimate truth is always light, because all things end up in God. As soon as you start trying to hide your darkness, you are bound to hide your light.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Acknowledging inner conflict is the first step to making better decisions. In thinking of things I am worried about or of things I want changed, if I ask myself, “What would I like to happen?” the first few outcomes that come to mind are often superficial. But if I keep asking, “What else would I like to happen?” my desires often deepen. Yet as they do, they also start to conflict with the earlier desires. Recognizing the contrasting outcomes that I think I want, gives me the option of choosing what part of me I wish to be more of. In this way, conflict can be well used.”
Caroline Myss: “…your highest purpose is never a matter of title, power, wealth, and goods – as hard as that is for the ego to accept. Your highest purpose is what you soul can accomplish in union with your ego and God, not in opposition to them.”
Eckhart Tolle: “There is only one absolute Truth, and all other truths emanate from it. When you find that Truth, your actions will be in alignment with it. Human actions can reflect the Truth, or it can reflect illusion. Can the Truth be put into words? Yes, but the words are, of course, not it. They only point to it.”
Unity’s Daily Word
“With faith-filled enthusiasm,
I accept God’s good for my life.”
“As I awaken each day, conscious of God’s presence and giving thanks for the good that is going to be revealed in my life, I set an expectation of being blessed.”
“I keep that expectation active by looking for and recognizing the blessing that is always present and waiting my discovery. At times circumstances may challenge me, but with faith-filled enthusiasm, I look beyond circumstances to the truth of God’s goodness.”
“I am blessed because health, wholeness and abundance are components of my being. I enthusiastically give thanks to God for my blessings and accept my good in the myriad ways it comes to me.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 20
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“There is nothing to be afraid of.”
“It’s not easy to internalize the principle that there is nothing to be afraid of. We likely grew up in families where we observed fear firsthand. Now our companions are frequently afraid. So are our children and other loved ones. Fear seems to be a universal emotion. The great news is that it doesn’t have to plague us. The remedy is simple. If we’re afraid, we’ve forgotten the presence of the Holy Spirit who is here to protect us and make us peaceful. All we have to do is recall It to memory.
How can we discard fear? Let’s practice with small, relatively insignificant experiences. They will be affected by and changed in exactly the same way more serious experience will be. The routine is this: When a feeling of dread erupts, immediately image the Holy Spirit. Remember that Its assignment from God is to comfort us and bring us peace. Learning, as we will, that we can count on It every time teaches us that we can be free of fear. Forever.”
“Today can be as peaceful as I want it to be.
Even in the face of disaster, the Holy Spirit will give me peace.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “We receive God’s peace when we ask Him for it. We keep His peace by extending it to others.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Whenever I stumble, let my response be to wait in stillness on my God. Let me make gentleness and mental quietness my standard, my protection, and my goal. Let me not chew on the ego’s meatless bones: what someone meant by something they said. How hopelessly incompetent I am. How unfair life is. How misunderstood I am by my family. How impossible spiritual attainment is. Let me instead practice the Answer, which is stillness of mind, connection with others, and trust in God.”
Caroline Myss: “Investing time and energy in learning about higher consciousness teachings and practices, and then deciding that you would prefer not to be quite that conscious, will lead you into spiritual chaos. Your fear of God will feed itself with superstitions about a divinity who punishes, who takes away your wealth and makes you ill. Yet, paradoxically, you have no option but to pray to that God to help you maintain your wealth and your health – and your faith.”
Eckhart Tolle: “Being right places you in a position of imagined moral superiority in relation to the person or situation that is being judged and found wanting. It is that sense of superiority the ego craves and through which it enhances itself.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“In God’s presence, I am safe and secure,
enfolded in love, and completely at peace.”
“As I look forward the day ahead, I take a moment to reflect on my travel plans. Whether they include a routine trip around town or a special adventure to a far-off place, I remind myself that at all times I am enfolded in the love of God. With this understanding, I begin my day with confidence.”
“At ease in the presence of pure love, I enjoy the experience of the journey itself. With the spirit of God accompanying me along the way – whether I am flying, driving, walking, or riding – I am free from worry and concern.”
“I trust that through God’s spirit within, I have all the good judgment, strength, and energy that is needed. God is my companion as I travel near and far, and I am grateful for safe journeys.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 19
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Our minds wander thoughtlessly.”
“To daydream isn’t bad. Some of our most creative ideas come to us when our thinking is unfocused. Let’s not relinquish monitoring our thoughts, however, because many of them are not beneficial, particularly when the ego is doing the thinking.
How can we tell who is in charge of our thinking? Perhaps prior to our coming to the Course, we never suspected that we had two “personas” behind the curtain of our mind. But it hasn’t taken much reflection to see how different we think and behave in some instances than in others. What’s going on?
The difference in how we act and think is owing simply to our choice of “thinker.” When we let the ego think, we feel only fear and behave accordingly. When we rely on the Holy Spirit, our actions are loving and forgiving. We experience no strife when It’s in charge. Why would we ever let the ego speak for us? That’s the insanity of this world.”
“My journey into the Real World beckons today.
I will follow in the steps of the Holy Spirit.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Knowing who you are and why you came here – that you are a child of God and that you came here to heal and be healed – is more important than knowing what you want to do. What you want to do is not the important question. The question to ask is, “When I do anything, how should I do it?” And the answer is, “Kindly.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “The images my mind keeps returning to inform me of what I rely on. There are no purely random thoughts and I should remain aware of the drift of my thinking. To resent, to long for, or to regret, is to place my trust in the wrong reality. I adopt a set of laws that are wholly unlike divine law. In this way I live in a purgatory of my own making. Although this choice doesn’t control the experience other people have, I can’t help but offer them a more difficult life.”
Caroline Myss: “We want constant proof that God hears our prayers and monitors our physical survival, but we do not really want to make eye contact with the divine because of the consequences: After encountering God, we would have to live a relentlessly conscious, compassionate life, and we would have to overlook the behavior of people in our world who continue to live as we once did, consciously unconscious, and treat them with understanding and compassion.”
Eckhart Tolle: “You need to make other wrong in order to get a stronger sense of who you are. Not only a person, but also a situation can be made wrong through complaining and reactivity, which always implies that ‘this should not be happening.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“I am nourished by the joy of God that feeds my soul.”
“I live in a world of God’s creation that offers many reasons and occasions to experience joy. A breath of fresh air, a hug from a loved one, a movie or a book of inspiration – any of these can call forth the gladness of my soul into expression.”
“My deepest joy, however, is my relationship with God, and I experience such soul satisfaction in thinking of and communing with God. I find joy in enriching my soul with prayer. Reflecting on a lifetime of prayer, I have clarity of purpose that can never be taken away from me.”
“The people and circumstances that seem to create my joy are, in reality, reflecting what I already have in the deepest part of me. Realizing this, I am grateful for the joy of God that feeds my soul.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 18
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“The Course is one pathway to God.”
“It’s not unusual to grow up believing that our religious convictions are the only worthy ones. Many churches intentionally indoctrinate parishioners in that way. That’s how they maintain control. How refreshing to be told in the Course that there are many roads to God. Whatever was our path before need never be denied nor denigrated. It carried us to where we are now. Where we’ll go next depends on our desire for additional enlightenment.
We each wish to know God. How exciting to realize we share this journey with so many like-minded people. The trip bonds us; none of us is making it alone, and all of us will arrive. Because we travel together, we are living examples, continuously, of good and poor God-connections. It’s not an accident that so many “models” surround us. We’ll benefit most from mimicking only those who demonstrate love.”
“I seek to know God today. Every encounter is my opportunity.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Actual change occurs because of a decision on our part: the decision to heal, the decision to change. It ultimately doesn’t matter so much why I become angry or defensive. What matters is that I decided I want to be healed, and I ask God to help me.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “The images my mind keeps returning to inform me of what I rely on. There are no purely random thoughts and I should remain aware of the drift of my thinking. Caroline Myss: “We are rarely open…to seeing the presence of God within ourselves and we fear intimacy with the divine unless it is on our terms. When we need help, we want that help to come exactly as we need it, exactly when we need it, causing as little discomfort as possible.”
Eckhart Tolle: “Being right is identification with a mental position – a perspective, an opinion, a judgment, a story. For you to be right, of course, you need someone else to be wrong, and so the ego love to make wrong in order to be right.”

I am grateful for the love children and I have shared and for the wonderful adults they becoming or have become.”
“I may not have children or grandchildren in my home, but I thank God for the chance to mentor children who might not otherwise have a positive role model in their lives. I revel in their excitement when they have learned a new skill or mastered a difficult subject. “Thank You, God, for each and every opportunity to love and work with children.”

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 12
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“The Holy Spirit always knows what we need.”
“Hindsight is a good teacher. Every one of us has been spared our fondest wish on more than one occasion. And today we count our blessings. The marriage we thought we had to have or the job of all jobs would not have brought us lasting happiness. Now we can see what path we were on. It wasn’t luck that saved us, although we may have guessed so before coming to the Course. Now we know the Holy Spirit was “present” when we were faltering.
There’s comfort in the knowledge that the Holy Spirit is always close. But we may wonder why we’ve experienced some tough times anyway. That’s where the ego comes in. Just as we have the voice of the Holy Spirit to rely on, we have the ego’s voice at hand. It convinces us far too often to obey its will. The pain and suffering that dot our past are the evidence of its power. Relying on the Holy Spirit rather than the ego will change not only today but also every tomorrow.:
“I’ll meet no trouble today if I listen to the right voice.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “We are not here to fix, change, or belittle another person. We are here to support, forgive, and heal one another.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Because God is love, I am never alone. Regardless of what spiritual beliefs they profess, most people believe they are alone. They think, act, and pray as if they are alone. This is simple denial that Love exists. It is a misperception that spills on everything in the world they see, and it blocks the experience of peace.”
Caroline Myss: ‘How do you act unconscious – in other words, how often to you pretend to be unaware of the consequences of your actions and their incongruity with your beliefs – when you are really quite aware of what you’re doing?’
Eckhart Tolle: “Don’t try to let go of the grievance. Trying to let go, to forgive, does not work. Forgiveness happens naturally when you see that it has no purpose other than to strengthen a false sense of self, to keep the ego in place. The seeing is freeing.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“God’s love is my constant source of comfort.”
“Even in the most challenging times, when I am able to connect with a family member or trusted friend, I feel better.”
“The reality is that I need never go through anything alone. My most trusted companion is God, whose unending love is guiding me through the dark into the light of day.”
“In times of grief and sorrow, I may tend to forget that my Creator is patiently waiting for me to turn to this love for comfort. Yet when I do, I am enfolded and sustained by divine comfort.”
“I remember this truth throughout the day. And if ever I begin to feel alone or anxious, I let my thoughts take me to the comfort of God’s love.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 163
“There is no death. The Son of God is free.”

Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

June 11
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Attacking a problem never results in a solution.”
“When we think in terms of attacking a problem, we make the problem real. Usually, we incite others to attack us back too. We are learning that a far better approach to life is to go within and ask the Holy Spirit for a more loving perception of every situation that baffles us. It’s simple and comforting to live this way.
We can acknowledge this wasn’t our path before. We have the battle scars to show for it, but we have learned from our mistakes and we did the best we could with what we knew. How marvelous that we have a more enlightened perspective now. Every experience, not matter how traumatizing initially, will be smoothly incorporated into our lives with the help of the Holy Spirit. Our acceptance of any problem sets a wonderful example for others too. Let’s not forget that we are teaching what we have learned all the time. The students are everywhere.”
“I will teach only love and acceptance today.”
From Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “It’s easy to forgive people who have never done anything to make us angry. People who do make us angry, however, are our most important teachers. They indicate the limits to our capacity for forgiveness.”
Hugh Prather: “Because God is love, I am never alone. Regardless of what spiritual beliefs they profess, most believe they are alone. They think, act, and pray as if they are alone. This is simple denial that Love exists. It is a misperception that spills on everything in the world they see, and it blocks the experience of peace.”
Caroline Myss: ‘How conscious do you want to be?’
Eckhart Tolle: “A grievance is a strong negative emotion connected to an event in the sometimes distant past that is being kept alive by compulsive thinking, by retelling the story in the head or out loud of ‘what someone did to me’ or ‘what someone did to us.’ A grievance will also contaminate other areas of your life.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“Thank You, God, for the gift of this day!”
“Starting the day with “Thank You, God!” prepares me for a day of thankfulness.”
“In an attitude of thankfulness, I recognize that each new day is a gift from God. I accept this gift and my inner spiritual vision to see people and situations in a more positive light. In that light, I value both the ordinary and extraordinary blessings that people bring into my life. I understand the good that comes from experiencing a challenge: I learn that I am able to stretch and grow beyond what is usually asked of me.”
“I appreciate the spirit of God that is expressing life and intelligence through me. And I appreciate the people who are supporting and encouraging me with their positive thoughts, comments, and prayers.”

Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

June 8
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Jesus is our equal.”
“This may sound like heresy, but Jesus tell us in the Course that he was no different than we are now. He merely learned to transcend the ego more quickly than us. The primary lesson for us every day is to call on the Holy Spirit for understanding, a new vision, or merely comfort and guidance. Even when we think we know the best thing to do, we should consult with the Holy Spirit. The ego has something in mind for us. When we rely on it, trouble is only an act away.
We are not alone, ever. That we often feel alone and scared is evidence that the ego has made us its hostage. However, only the mind has been imprisoned and just for the moment. We can break free by merely thinking of Jesus or God or the Holy Spirit. It’s really quite simple, but be aware, the ego will assert itself again. The tug-of-war hasn’t ended, but the victor is up to us.”
“Jesus and I are one.
Remembering this will help me handle whatever occurs today.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Our barriers to love are rarely consciously chosen. They are our efforts to protect the places where the heart is bruised.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Take others into your heart, not into your self-esteem. The part of me that is connected to others and to the divine speaks directly to my mind. It informs me of who I am, where I am, and Who is with me. The ego tries to find some way to turn all situations into praise for itself, including problems and failures. But true self-esteem is built and sustained through connection with our Source. Thus low self-esteem is not a problem of insufficient inner cheerleading.”
Caroline Myss: ‘What exactly does it mean to be conscious and to act consciously?’
Eckhart Tolle: “A long standing resentment is called a grievance. To carry a grievance is to be in a permanent state of ‘against,’ and that is why grievances constitute a significant part of many people’s ego.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“I thank God the life, love
and abundance active within those I hold in prayer.”
“There is a power of life generated in prayers for others. An example of such intercessory prayer is found in Genesis. Rebekah’s desire to have children must have seemed hopeless. Then her husband Issac prayer for her and the answer came – not just as one child, but twins, Esau and Jacob.”
“Perhaps I know people who are temporarily perceiving themselves caught in a barren, hopeless situation. In praying for them, there is no need for me to outline the answer to prayer. I believe that God is the answer, and I support them in a spiritual birthing that brings forth greater love, healing, wisdom, and prosperity in their lives.”
“Releasing the outcome to God, I pray with compassion for others. I am assured that God is the answer to every prayer.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 159
“I give the miracles I have received.”

Seeds for the Garden of your Mind

June 6
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Healing occurs when pain has lost its value.”
“It’s common to resist the idea that “those who want to be healed, will be.” As hospitals really full of people who have chosen to be sick? The Course says yes.
Accepting responsibility for some experiences is tolerable. For instance, why would we deny that our balance is impaired if we consume too much alcohol, or that running a red light can trigger an accident? However, admitting we’re responsible for every aspect of our lives, each joy and every sorrow, is unbearable at first. Fortunately, we don’t have to accept and understand overnight how our material world unfolds. Absorbing the news that we do reap what we have sown comes in stages.
But how does this explain healing, or the lack thereof? Monitoring our thoughts about the significant issues as well as the picayune ones enlightens us about our health. If we let the ego determine how we react, we can be certain it will try in some fashion to control the actions, and emotions of others. Our “weakened” condition is a tool the ego has valued too often. Laying it aside, for good, will change our health forever.”
“If my mind is at peace, I will be well today.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “Where two or more are gathered in God, His light within us accelerates and intensifies. Nothing is more powerful than an agreement between two people. The more a thought is shared, the stronger it becomes.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Love sees without interpretation. Most of the time I don’t truly see other people. I see them in relationship to me. I first look at myself, then at the other person. Real loves removes comparisons from the process and sees others directly. It doesn’t filter what another person does through the ego’s perennial question, “How do I feel about that?” It bypasses the distorting lens of my temporary needs and ever-shifting self-image and sees other individuals from within them.”
Caroline Myss: ‘Mystical service means modeling calm in chaos, kindness amid anger, forgiveness at all times, personal integrity – to live, in other words, mindful that every second offers a choice either to channel grace or to withhold it.’
Eckhart Tolle: “Complaining is not to be confused with informing someone of a mistake or deficiency so that it can be put right. And to refrain from complaining doesn’t necessarily mean putting up with bad quality or behavior.
Unity’s Daily Word:
“Responding to life from Spirit within,
I am grounded, wise, and at peace.”
“I have wisdom and freedom to choose how I respond to all circumstances and events in life. Releasing any need to react with negative emotion to people or situations, I respond instead from an understanding and awareness of Spirit within. The gentle, all-knowing Presence of God is my powerful, yet gentle guide.”
“I immerse myself in contemplative, guiding times of meditation and prayer. The more I do, the more naturally I find myself responding with wisdom and love to what ever is happening to me or around me.”
“Mine is a sacred response from Spirit within. With daily, soulful reflection, I remain grounded, wise, and at peace. I find my way past any obstacles to my good. My life is enriched and I enrich the lives of others.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 157
“Into His Presence would I enter now.”
What a beautiful expression for being in the now – the present moment. His Presence is within the silence within me. His Presence is forever part of and the whole of me. I have only to go there and experience the Presence of God. I have only to still my mind – to silence the noise – and I am there and that is the now.

Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 5
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“Giving up what we don’t know isn’t easy.”
“Our possessions and friends, jobs and dreams, aren’t so easily given up. Not all of them have to go. As we become more willing to experience the depth of the Course’s teaching, however, and acknowledge the presence of those who have gathered to teach us, we’ll realize that changes are happening in our lives, changes we hadn’t counted on. Even changes that worry us initially.
Developing trust is a process. We get ample opportunities to practice it. The losses that come to us, the dreams that vanish, the friends who leave are unsettling. These experiences are necessary though. Their time has come and gone. What comes our way now is what we are ready for. Again and again, we have to remind ourselves that there are no accidents. All experiences are meant for our good.”
“Today I will welcome unexpected experiences.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “To say, “In the name of God, Satan, get thee behind me!” means “Through the power of all that is beautiful in human beings, let all that is ugly go back to where it came from.” And what you have to do after you say this is truly, truly mean it.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Happiness begins with increased awareness of others. Pet owners who ask the question, “What doe this animal’s behavior say about me?” are capable of insensitivity and sometimes cruelty toward their pet. For example, they may demand that a dog be absolutely obedient and loyal to them yet see no reason why they should have a lifelong commitment to the dog. Likewise, I am acutely aware of other people’s attitudes toward me, yet I am not consistently conscious of my attitude toward them.”
Caroline Myss: ‘As a contemporary mystic, you are measured by the quality of attitude you bring to your tasks, by your capacity to be a model of generosity, and by challenging the fear that there is not enough to go around in this world – whether that is money, love, food, fame, power, attention, success, or social position.’
Eckhart Tolle: “…the ego’s greatest enemy of all is, of course, the present moment, which is to say, life itself.”
Unity’s Daily Word: “I am one in love and spirit with all people. Peace prevails in my heart and in the world.
“During a time of silence, I allow my mind and heart to be filled with God’s love. I cleanse my mind of any stereotypes or prejudices I may have unintentionally harbored toward those who seem different from me.”
“One in love and in spirit with all people, I pray that world leaders follow God’s guidance in maintaining earth as the bountiful home for all inhabitants. I pray for the dedicated men and women around the world who serve to protect the freedom of others.”
“I thank God for those who write, speak, and sing of peace. Peace prevails as together we work to preserve an environment of harmony in the world.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 156 “I walk with God in perfect holiness.”
I walk with God as God created me, in perfect holiness. Walking with God, I walk in the truth of who I am and what I am, and that is perfect holiness. It matters not at all how hard I try to be anything else, what I am in truth – perfect holiness – cannot be changed. When I am aware of this holiness, I am also aware of “walking” with God. Seeds for the Garden of Your Mind

June 4
Karen Casey, Daily Meditations for Practicing the Course:
“God has given each of us a special gift.”
“How often we wake up doubting ourselves depends on how caught we are in the grasp of the ego. Some days going to work seems overwhelming. Handling difficult children or mending fences with a parent gives us fits of anxiety. Obviously we have forgotten the Holy Spirit. We never experience these pangs of uncertainty when we have sought Its help.
It only we could remember that we are exactly where our “services” are needed every single minute. And what are the services? Simply to listen to others with our hearts, and respond with love. No matter where we are or what occupation we have, our task is the same.
We complicate our experiences so much, always trying to figure out the right solution. There is only one solution for everything! We can give up the angst, the need to be right, the worry over outcomes. None of it matters. If we have forgiveness and love in our hearts, we are fulfilling our purpose.”
“My participation in today’s events
will reflect the love the Holy Spirit has given me.”
Marianne Williamson, A Year of Daily Wisdom: “The key to happiness is the decision to be happy.”
Hugh Prather, Morning Notes: “Happiness begins with increased awareness of others. Pet owners who ask the question, ‘What does this animal’s behavior say about me?’ are capable of insensitivity and sometimes cruelty toward their pet. For example, they may demand that a dog be absolutely obedient and loyal to them yet see no reason why they should have a lifelong commitment to the dog. Likewise, I am acutely aware of other people’s attitudes toward me, yet I am not consistently conscious of my attitudes toward them.”
Caroline Myss: “Exposure to truth changes your life, period – whether that truth is a revelation about personal honesty and integrity or a divine revelation that reorganizes your place in the universe. This is why most people run from truth rather than toward it.”
Eckhart Tolle: “Non-reaction is not weakness but strength. Another word for non-reaction is forgiveness. To forgive is to over look, or rather to look through. You look through the ego to the sanity that is in every human being as his or her essence.”
Unity’s Daily Word:
“With a Spirit-inspired attitude,
I am loving, peaceful, and joyous.”
“Nothing adverse from the past can hold me back from living in the fullness of God’s presence today. Unquestionably, it is at the times when I am attuned to Spirit and know the truth of who I am that I live my life to the fullest.”
“My thoughts help form my experiences. Every moment in time is an opportunity for me to be creative in the highest, most positive ways. So as I talk to people, work at my job or run errands, I do so with joy and a Spirit-inspired attitude.”
“My words and actions are creating an atmosphere of peace and love for me and for those I meet and interact with throughout the day. With a Spirit-inspired attitude, I am loving, peaceful, and joyous.”
A Course in Miracles: Lesson 155
“I will step back and let Him lead the way.”
This is one of those lessons I can easily repeat many times a day – many, many times. All too often I believe I know all that is to be known and so I lead myself, but soon find that I am doing nothing more than going in circles – easily identified as being led by ego. All I must do is but pause, and allow the way to be shown to me by the Holy Spirit within me. That really is all that I must do, and yet it certainly appears that some days, I just don’t “have the time” to do that. Time is here just for such a purpose!
