Relationships provide one of the best opportunities for practicing what we preach. So many wonderful qualities are called forth in a relationship, things like patience, forgiveness, acceptance, trust, integrity and compassion. Nurturing relationships is a way of finding the Christ consciousness in others and ultimately remembering the unity way of life, my friend is my sister is myself.
The true test of our belief comes when someone in out life presents us with an unpleasant situation. Bosses and coworkers come quickly to mind. Or maybe a family member who pushes our buttons. When someone hurts us a very human response is to push back on the source of our discomfort, reacting with anger or blame. we may know in our heads that every relationship is a gift but in the moment of high emotions our egos tell us this person threatens our well being or our sense of self.
How do we find the gift of oneness when the appearance is so unappealing? Hundreds of self help books are ready to help us find our way through the maze of relationships. Beneath all of the jargon is a simple truth, When a person is acting out we can be sure she is acting outside of her Godself. She is acting from fear and expects us to accept her fear as real too. We have a choice instead of jumping into the drama we can take a deep breath and remember that this person is God regardless of her behavior. We can refuse to accept her fear as truth. it is incredible how swiftly the situation transforms into opportunity for growth. What a gift!
Affirm: Today I choose to see the perfection in others and the gift they are to me.
