Keeping track and Taking Stock

God’s in his heaven, All’s right with the world. - Robert Browning

We are to know that passing events cannot hinder the onward march of the soul.
- The Science of Mind, pg 479

When we look back on our life’s journey we often mark our high and low points by the dates of memorable events. We evaluate and measure our life experiences by the milestones these occurrences represent.

It is helpful to realize that no event is intrinsically or any greater or lesser merit than another. Everything that happens us essentially neutral. We tend to color events by the way we view them. If we feel pleasure when something happens we think it is good and desirable. If there is pain we shrink from it and try our best to avoid its recurrence. But, the event itself is just an event, a situation that occurred because of the combination of certain natural factors that are neither good nor bad.

As we progress in our spiritual life we begin to see through external events and whatever discomfort accompanies them. We start to perceive a power and presence that is behind and beyond the physical manifestation that we see or experience. We sense this presence is there to support and strengthen us. We begin to see the universe working for us and not against us, and that there is no external fate that is capricious and deliberately deceitful.

Every event in our life contains seeds for our ongoing development as spiritual beings. Our consciousness determines how we relate to these events and whether we are strengthened or embittered by them. Trusting in the guidance of Spirit empowers us on the path and helps us to see each event as the stepping-stone that it is.

I rejoice in the journey of my life. Today I view all the events that happen to me as occasions of Spirit expressing for my good.
